The mist and cloud set the mood on this memorable morning.
Clear skies would have been nice to walk under, but the mood would have been
gone and the light would have been harsh. Hanalei Bay is a 3-mile long perfect crescent of sand surrounded by the world’s rainiest mountains. Over 500 inches of rain drench nearby Mt. Waialeale every year and about 100 inches fall on this beach. 5 of the 7 famous waterfalls can be seen here.
Despite all that rain, days are mostly clear so it still took me several return trips to this beach in order to be here at the right time. Up to seven waterfalls are often seen in the mountains after a good rain shower. The atmosphere created some nice warm filtered light, which turned the sand into gold for a few seconds in between waves. The sun is rising to the left of the frame.
This was taken back in February 24, 2008, the last day that it rained a significantly measurable amount in San Francisco! The rainy season should start soon we hope. It is now October 25th. (Update, it is Nov. 9 and it finally rained a few days ago!)

This was taken this evening at MGM Studios in Disney World before we went to go see the big fireworks show. I have a few images of that too, of course, but not processed yet. I still have a big backlog of other unique travel stuff to get through when I get some time!

This is Hamilton Pool, one of the best kept secrets in Austin. The preserve’s pool and grotto were formed when the dome of an underground river collapsed thousands of years ago. There is a ring of 45-foot waterfalls all around the rim. Flow was light this day, but you can still see a few streams of water coming down.
